Kaátaìra (also rendered Kaatayra) is the one-man project of Caio Lemos from Brasília, Brazil, blending atmospheric black metal with acoustic, regional Brazilian folk music. Across albums such as 'Inpariquipê' (2021) and 'Caminhos de Água' (2026, on Avantgarde sublabel Flowing Downward), rasped black-metal fury is threaded through acoustic guitar, folk instrumentation and drawn-out ambient passages. 'Caminhos de Água' is a river-themed suite that even weaves in spoken word from the artist's grandmother.

Dornenreich is an Austrian melodic black metal band formed in 1996 by Jochen 'Eviga' Stock, distinguished by its 'neofolk influenced' sound built around acoustic guitar, percussion, and Thomas 'Inve' Riesner's violin. Across nine studio albums on Prophecy Productions (1997-2021), German-language lyrics and an increasingly ambient, acoustic-leaning palette have accompanied a reputation for theatrical, tightly staged live shows, including a multi-camera concert film shot at Summer Breeze 2007.

Avant-garde black metal project from San Francisco founded in 2009 by Roberto 'Otrebor' Martinelli, built entirely around distorted hammered dulcimer and drums with no guitar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botanist_(band)). NPR spotlighted Botanist as pairing an unheard-of lead instrument with dynamic, hypnotic songwriting, and lyrics center on environmental collapse and nature's reclamation of Earth under the mythic figure of 'The Botanist.' The band has expanded from a solo recording project into a full lineup for later albums, releasing through The Flenser, Totalrust Music and Prophecy Productions.

Circle of Ouroborus is a Finnish experimental/atmospheric black metal duo formed in Tampere in 2004 by vocalist Antti Klemi and multi-instrumentalist Rauta. Prolific to the point of dozens of lo-fi releases, favoring unconventional clean vocals and folk-tinged passages.

Holdlajtorja is a Hungarian project from Zalaegerszeg formed in 2018 by figures from the country's black metal underground - guitarist/songwriter Inmar (also of Vorkuta), vocalist Kryptagonist (also of Leiru and SIR), and Vorgrov (also of Marblebog and Asattarn). Named for a Lovecraftian vision from At the Mountains of Madness and sung in Hungarian, the band trades blast-beat orthodoxy for slow-unfurling, dark-ambient soundscapes laced with unusual string instruments and 'oriental' melodic passages. Their 2024 debut full-length Arcana et Tenebrae (Sun & Moon Records) was described by reviewers as 'Dark Ambient Avant Garde Music with Black Metal's constant intervention.'

Thy Catafalque is a Hungarian avant-garde/experimental metal project formed in Makó in 1998, essentially the solo vehicle of multi-instrumentalist Tamás Kátai. Its music fuses atmospheric instrumental writing, Hungarian folk melodies and electronics with a post-black-metal core, ranging from fragile ambient passages to harsh metal. Signed to Season of Mist since 2011, the project is known for shape-shifting albums that draw on folklore, rock and electronic textures.

Grudom is a deliberately obscure Danish black metal project, active from around 2012, tagged Psychedelic/Avant-Garde Black Metal.

Crestfallen Dusk is a mostly one-man Tennessee project led by Ryan Clackner (also of Primeval Well, Vile Haint, and StumpTail) that reimagines black metal through the lens of Mississippi Hill Country blues, citing Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside as touchstones. The 2022 self-titled debut (Moonlight Cypress Archetypes) pairs blast beats and blackened shrieks with twangy, reverb-drenched blues guitar recorded on a vintage 1958 Fender Musicmaster. Tok Yathraa is the one-man 'Bomoh Metal' project of a Singaporean musician (previously of local acts Demonification and Ironfist), fusing black and heavy metal with Southeast Asian ghost folklore. Since the 2020 debut EP 'Chapter: Kuntilanak,' each entry in the ongoing 'Chapter' series is a concept record built around a single regional spirit - toyol, pocong, orang minyak, hantu jepun, genderuwo - with the artist citing King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, and Malay singer SM Salim as touchstones for its theatrical, horror-folklore-driven songwriting. Live performances add hired bassist Joa DC and drummer Demonomancer.
