Prolific solo Australian project (Reservoir, Victoria) started in 1997 by sole member A DMN SHN, self-styled 'Pure Ancient Occult Egyptian Space Metal.' Across 28+ full-lengths on Shaytan Productions the project sets all 189 spells of the Egyptian Book of the Dead to music, blending industrial black metal with choral/orchestral ambience, dungeon synth, dark ambient and layered folk/ethnic instrumentation (mandolins, flutes, arghuls, violins) under funeral-doom passages and ritual chanting.

Midnight Odyssey is the one-man cosmic/atmospheric black metal outlet of Brisbane's Dis Pater, running concept albums soaked in mythology since 2007. Its sprawling Biolume trilogy (2019-2023) folds synth-driven ambient drone, neoclassical arrangement, and doom-metal pacing around a core of raw, lo-fi black metal. The project regularly spins off pure ambient/ kosmische material and symphonic re-recordings alongside the metal proper, making atmosphere as central to its identity as riffs.

Holdlajtorja is a Hungarian project from Zalaegerszeg formed in 2018 by figures from the country's black metal underground - guitarist/songwriter Inmar (also of Vorkuta), vocalist Kryptagonist (also of Leiru and SIR), and Vorgrov (also of Marblebog and Asattarn). Named for a Lovecraftian vision from At the Mountains of Madness and sung in Hungarian, the band trades blast-beat orthodoxy for slow-unfurling, dark-ambient soundscapes laced with unusual string instruments and 'oriental' melodic passages. Their 2024 debut full-length Arcana et Tenebrae (Sun & Moon Records) was described by reviewers as 'Dark Ambient Avant Garde Music with Black Metal's constant intervention.'

Kaátaìra (also rendered Kaatayra) is the one-man project of Caio Lemos from Brasília, Brazil, blending atmospheric black metal with acoustic, regional Brazilian folk music. Across albums such as 'Inpariquipê' (2021) and 'Caminhos de Água' (2026, on Avantgarde sublabel Flowing Downward), rasped black-metal fury is threaded through acoustic guitar, folk instrumentation and drawn-out ambient passages. 'Caminhos de Água' is a river-themed suite that even weaves in spoken word from the artist's grandmother.

Dead Raven Choir is the long-running solo/rotating-cast vehicle of Polish musician Smolken (also of Wolfmangler), begun in 1996 in Kraków as a black-metal project setting A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh poems to "virulent" riffing before evolving into a sprawling, deliberately lo-fi hybrid of raw black metal, acoustic folk metal, dark ambient and neofolk. Its extensive, ramshackle discography (15+ studio albums, numerous CD-Rs) trades polish for degraded, intentionally harsh production, closer to outsider/neofolk territory than conventional metal, which the project itself has framed as its point.

Thy Catafalque is a Hungarian avant-garde/experimental metal project formed in Makó in 1998, essentially the solo vehicle of multi-instrumentalist Tamás Kátai. Its music fuses atmospheric instrumental writing, Hungarian folk melodies and electronics with a post-black-metal core, ranging from fragile ambient passages to harsh metal. Signed to Season of Mist since 2011, the project is known for shape-shifting albums that draw on folklore, rock and electronic textures.

Midoran is the solo dark-fantasy project of French multi-instrumentalist Athal'Zacker, part of the Cercle Mortuaire collective alongside acts like Degenerescence and Mortuaire. Its prolific catalog alternates between raw, melodic black metal and synthesizer-driven dungeon synth passages, built around an ongoing fantasy narrative (Zolaria, Merozia, the Athal'Zackar mythos) in a vein reminiscent of Nuit Noire or Trha. Releases favor world-building atmosphere and lore over technical ambition.

Circle of Ouroborus is a Finnish experimental/atmospheric black metal duo formed in Tampere in 2004 by vocalist Antti Klemi and multi-instrumentalist Rauta. Prolific to the point of dozens of lo-fi releases, favoring unconventional clean vocals and folk-tinged passages.

A Forest of Stars is a British avant-garde black metal band formed 2007 in Leeds, wrapping tremolo black metal in folk instrumentation (violin, flute), psychedelia and an elaborate Victorian 'Gentlemen's Club' concept set in 1898. Across five albums (debut The Corpse of Rebirth, 2008; through Grave Mounds and Grave Mistakes, 2018, on Lupus Lounge) they range from 'blistering black metal fury' to 'opium dreamscapes.' Spoken narration, steampunk pseudonyms and hand-built artwork make the theatrical framing central.

Crestfallen Dusk is a mostly one-man Tennessee project led by Ryan Clackner (also of Primeval Well, Vile Haint, and StumpTail) that reimagines black metal through the lens of Mississippi Hill Country blues, citing Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside as touchstones. The 2022 self-titled debut (Moonlight Cypress Archetypes) pairs blast beats and blackened shrieks with twangy, reverb-drenched blues guitar recorded on a vintage 1958 Fender Musicmaster. Sean Meyers (drums) and Zac Ormerod (lyrics/mixing) round out the record's credits.
