Alfa Obscura is a one-man Norwegian black metal/avant-garde project based in Oslo, run since around 2010 by Bjeima (Bjørge Eide Martinsen), who writes, performs, and produces all instruments and vocals. Musically it is rooted in cold, dissonant '90s Norwegian black metal tradition pushed into more avant-garde territory across the albums 'Plutonian Shores' (2011) and 'Sisyfos Speil' (2023), the latter drawing critical comparisons to Ved Buens Ende, Virus, and Manes. Bjeima is also a session/touring bassist for the Norwegian avant-garde black metal band Virus, appearing on their album 'The Agent That Shapes The Desert' (2011) and 'Oblivion Clock' EP (2012).

Lengsel are a Norwegian progressive/avant-garde 'unblack' metal band formed in 1995, whose 2000 debut Solace won a following for its atmospheric, experimental take on black metal. The band is tightly bound to Extol: guitarist Tor Magne Glidje joined Extol in 1999 (first on bass, later guitar) and, over time, all three Lengsel members became members of Extol. The overlap left Lengsel a largely studio-bound project.

Towards Rusted Soil is a black metal side project of Tamás Kátai, better known as the founder/mainman of Thy Catafalque (and also of Gort and Gire), on which he performed all vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards and programming himself. The project released two demos, Forsaken in Fog (2000) and A Landscape Slumbering (2003), before its material was reissued on a 2014 four-way split alongside fellow Makó-scene acts Gort, Namtar and Gire.

Ebonillumini is a female-fronted avant-garde/gothic black metal project from London, founded in 2008 by Meads of Asphodel guitarist James Tait ('The Monk Marshall') alongside vocalist Christina Poupoutsi ('The Maiden'). Across The Ebon Channel (2008), Pacificum (2013) and Arktos (2015) the band frames each record as a concept-driven geographic voyage, pairing Poupoutsi's operatic, 'musky' clean vocals against Tait's harsh growls, with reviewers noting jazz-inflected song structures, neo-classical/symphonic orchestration and black-metal-rooted riffing shading into psychedelia and Viking-metal tropes. Production has drawn criticism for burying the heavier material under brickwalled mastering and overlong running times.

Ragnarökkur is an atmospheric black metal project whose Bandcamp lists Iceland as its home (Metal Archives instead tags it Finland/Iceland, suggesting a split/international lineup), built around the core pairing of Matron Thorn (strings and synthetics) and Nefarious (drums and percussion), with Palmi and Stefan on voice and guest female vocals from Kabukimono. Its sole release to date, the 2021 demo Fjöldagröf Goðanna, sets furious, technically dense atmospheric black metal against Icelandic-language song titles drawn from Norse mythology (the name itself is an Icelandic form of Ragnarök), with orchestral synth layering thickening the atmosphere. Beyond that one five-track demo there is no further discography or biographical material available.

Schammasch are a Basel, Switzerland avant-garde black metal band formed in 2009, named for the Mesopotamian sun god Shamash. Beginning in black/death territory, they grew increasingly experimental, peaking with the triple-album Triangle (2016) whose final disc is pure ambient, and Hearts of No Light (2019), which folds clean/post-punk vocals and ritualistic dark-ambient into their black-metal core. Occultism, spirituality and surrealism thread their long-form, atmosphere-first releases on Prosthetic Records.

Sturmgeist is the solo vehicle of Norwegian musician Cornelius Jakhelln (Solefald, G.U.T.), founded in 2002 as an experimental black/thrash outfit that took an increasingly electronic/industrial turn from its 2005 debut Meister Mephisto onward. Sung across English, Norwegian and German, the project draws on Germanic mythology, war and poetry (Goethe), with Jakhelln handling vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, programming and sampling himself while rotating in session musicians for drums and second guitar.

Dark Fortress were a melodic black metal band from Landshut, Germany, active from 1994 until their May 2023 disbandment, known for atmosphere-heavy concept albums such as Seance (2006) and Eidolon (2008), released through Century Media. Longtime guitarist V. Santura (with the band 2001-2023) also served as Celtic Frost's touring guitarist during that band's 2006-2008 live reunion, before co-founding Tom G. Fischer's post-Celtic Frost band Triptykon. Later lineups included drummer Hannes Grossmann (ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist).

De Magia Veterum is the guitar-driven black metal outlet of Dutch multi-instrumentalist Maurice "Mories" de Jong, founded in 2003 as a dedicated counterpart to his more electronic/drone-leaning project Gnaw Their Tongues. Across five studio albums released between 2005 and 2017 (Spikes Through Eyes, Migdal Bavel, The Divine Antithesis, The Deification, Naked Swords into the Wombs of the Enemy) the project pursues dissonant, atonal black metal steeped in esoteric and biblical imagery. De Jong self-releases the project through his own label Transcendental Creations and hosts it on the shared Gnaw Their Tongues Bandcamp alongside his other aliases Aderlating, Cloak of Altering and Seirom.

Post-black metal duo from Saint Petersburg, Russia, active as Swampborn since 2011. Guitarist Pathrone and vocalist Sur released their debut full-length Beyond Ratio via Hypnotic Dirge Records in 2022, weaving brass, violin, cello and accordion into a black-metal core across a concept narrative about existential horror and urban decay.
