Tjolgtjar is the solo vehicle of Illinois's Reverend J.R. Preston, mutating black metal since the mid-2000s across albums like Voices from the Center of Earth, The New Age and 2025's Alleluia. Preston plays every instrument himself, splicing raw black-metal riffing with country, southern rock, surf and gospel-tinged detours, topped by vocals that lurch from hoarse shrieks to strangely operatic clean singing.

Korova is an Austrian avant-garde black metal band formed in Innsbruck in 1990 by Christof Niederwieser, Michael Kröll, Moritz Neuner and Georg Razesberger. Their 1995 Napalm Records debut A Kiss in the Charnel Fields fused black and death metal with dual vocals, unusual time signatures, and acoustic color from timpani, mandolin and violin, following it with Dead Like an Angel (1998). Niederwieser and Neuner later split off to form Korovakill, with Niederwieser also releasing solo material as Chryst.

Formloff is a Norwegian two-piece formed in 2002 by Marius Blekspetl Sjøli and Bernt Karsten Sannerud, playing a doomy, progressive-leaning strain of avant-garde black metal. After four demos and a 2007 debut, Adjø Silo, the duo's 2012 sophomore album Spyhorelandet arrived on Eisenwald Tonschmiede, layering long free-flowing compositions, shifting time signatures, folk instrumentation like mandolin, cult-like chanting, and a guest saxophone turn over its dissonant black-metal core. Noble Déchet is a Quebec City black metal project active since 2020, built around Le Mangeur de Feuilles Mortes (vocals, guitar, bass, double bass, organ) and Jean-Guilde (drums, vocals). RateYourMusic tags and user reviews mark them as avant-garde/folk black metal, layering 'weird folk and pagan esoterica' over raw, occult-themed black metal, with the project's own promotional voice leaning hard into absurdist, self-mythologizing humor.

Furia is a Polish black metal band formed in Katowice in 2003, fronted by Michał "Nihil" Kuźniak, considered one of the most influential and boundary-pushing acts in the Polish scene. The band's self-described "Nekrofolk" style fuses raw black metal with Polish folk, psychedelia and post-punk, drawing on the industrial/forested landscape of Silesia; Nihil and bassist Kamil "Sars" Staszałek also play together in MasseMord. Furia performed at Primavera Sound in 2014 and was nominated for Polityka's Passport award in 2023 for the album Huta Luna.

The Meads of Asphodel are an experimental black-metal band from Hertfordshire, England, formed in 1998 by vocalist Metatron, splicing heavy guitar-based black metal with medieval, Eastern, punk and theatrical elements. Across concept albums such as Exhuming the Grave of Yeshua (2003) and The Murder of Jesus the Jew (2010) they built a reputation as one of Britain's most idiosyncratic extreme-metal acts. Pyrithe are a Pittsburgh, US experimental sludge/post-metal band whose 2022 Gilead Media debut Monuments to Impermanence smears sludge and doom across noise, ambient, post-rock, hardcore and black-metal extremes. The trio treat the studio as a junk-shop orchestra, folding a Finnish kantele, coconuts, egg-shakers and literal trash into their whirlwind, avant-garde compositions. It is a savage, absurdist 'strange symphony' that stays coherent despite trying to do everything at once.
