Dola are a Polish avant-garde black metal trio formed in Poznań in 2018 and now based in Toruń. Their sound couples a dissonant, aggressive black-metal backbone with ritual ambient, sludge/post-metal heaviness and pronounced jazz elements, the latter carried by Maras's trumpet. Recent album 'Tabernakulum' (2024, Piranha Music) swings between brutal dissonance and the atmospheric avant-garde passages that define the band.

Wyrmwoods is a one-man experimental/atmospheric black metal project from Oulu, Finland, active since 2014 under the alias Nuurag-Vaarn and signed to Inverse Records. Its four full-lengths (Earth Made Flesh, 2017; Spirit & Teeth, 2019; Gamma, 2020; No Sun Nor Moon, 2022) fold progressive rock, doom, jazz saxophone and ambient texture into a black metal core, with Gamma marking a deliberate turn from a chaotic, lo-fi approach toward more progressive, Opeth-indebted songwriting.

Trelldom is Norwegian black metal vocalist Gaahl's (Kristian Eivind Espedal) longest-running band, founded in Sunnfjord in 1992 and debuting with 'Til Evighet' in 1995. After a long hiatus the band returned with 2024's '...by the Shadows...', a stylistic departure that pulls in jazz saxophonist Kjetil Møster to push the band's traditional black metal into dissonant, avant-garde and drone-rock territory.

Chicago's Murmur mutate black metal's frost into something stranger, threading Moog synths, jazz-inflected dissonance, and Midwest punk urgency through shrieked, tremolo-driven songwriting. Where peers double down on cold atmosphere, Murmur's albums (2010's Mainlining the Lugubrious, its 2014 self-titled follow-up) reach for space-rock sprawl and noise-rock grit instead. The result sits closer to post-black-metal's outer edges than to any orthodox scene.

Ex Eye are an instrumental NYC quartet formed in 2016, led by experimental saxophonist Colin Stetson with Greg Fox (Liturgy) on drums, Shahzad Ismaily (Secret Chiefs 3, Ceramic Dog) on synth and Toby Summerfield on guitar. Grown out of Stetson's Gorecki-reimagining sessions, they fuse black metal's hypnotic repetition and blast beats with free-jazz saxophone and drone, releasing a self-titled debut on Relapse Records in 2017. It is one of the more successful jazz-metal syntheses of its era.

Noosefiller is a South Lake Tahoe, California project centered on Loren Zibull (synthesizers, samples, drum programming, production, vocals) and Christophe Bassett (guitar, vocals, saxophone), with A.O.S Heirdrain contributing vocals/lyrics, releasing through Deafbox Industries. Their self-titled 2017 album is tagged atmospheric and psychedelic black metal alongside IDM, industrial metal, dark ambient, and avant-garde metal on Bandcamp, reflecting a sound that folds electronic programming and saxophone into a blackened, atmospheric metal base; the artist's wider Bandcamp tag cloud also includes atmospheric sludge metal, progressive metal, and noise rock.

Kexelür is a Santiago, Chile trio formed around 2021 playing atmospheric, dissonant, and psychedelic black metal built around free improvisation. Their releases are billed as largely improvised live sessions, with reviewers noting 'jazz fusion inspired soloing/leads' layered over the black metal foundation. The band communicates only through single-letter pseudonyms (Λ., V., J.), with Λ. also running the solo project Fatalys (not in the E.M.M.A. atlas).

Epistasis is a New York-based experimental black metal quartet distinguished by Amy Mills' vocals and trumpet, splicing modern-classical dissonance (cited influences: Bartok, Ligeti, Part) and avant-jazz color into abrasive, atmospheric black metal. Their 2014 Crucial Blast album 'Light Through Dead Glass' was engineered by Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans) and drew press comparisons to Ved Buens Ende and Virus for its dissonant, jagged songwriting. Drummer Alex Cohen also plays in Pyrrhon and Malignancy, and Mills has guested on trumpet for Castevet and Psalm Zero — none of which are in the current atlas.

Maquerelle is a French one-man outsider industrial project founded in 2014 by an artist performing as "Mr. Maquerelle," based in Chagny, France. The project layers black metal, noise, krautrock, spoken word and dark-ambient textures across a steady stream of self-recorded Bandcamp releases (Au Cinéma avec des Porcs, Ghaisergrad, Betty, Siffler L'Indifférence, and others), sometimes joined by collaborator Andréa Spartà.

Golden Cat Pagoda (金猫塔) is a one-man experimental black metal project founded by an artist known as 张 in early 2020, originally based in Shanghai and now working from Vancouver. The project fuses modern black metal's raw hostility with free jazz, ambience, and avant-garde structures, drawing lyrical and conceptual material from folktales of China's Sichuan-Chongqing (Chuan Yu) region. Its 2021 debut album 'Entropy' (熵) was released through the Chinese label Pest Productions and was followed by 'Mí Mí' (弥弥) in 2022, described as incorporating traditional Chinese drumming into hypnotic atmospheric passages.
