Minnesota trio Worn Mantle emerged from an earlier, unnamed doom/post-metal project to craft sprawling, noise-caked blackened death/doom, stretching songs well past the 15-minute mark and drifting, per Decibel, into 'guitar-driven psychedelic ambience' between passages of black/death intensity and doom/sludge weight. Their self-titled 2022 debut and 2023 follow-up Hole have built them a quiet but attentive following in the deep underground doom scene.

The dark-ambient/doom project of Matron Thorn (also of Ævangelist and Præternatura), based in Tampere, Finland, with six full-lengths 2021-2024. Bandcamp self-tags consistently describe it as experimental dark-ambient doom metal with post-rock and soundtrack qualities and occult lyrical themes — a slower, more spatial sibling to Thorn's more extreme-metal-facing projects.

Overmars was a French post-metal band active from 2001 to 2011, formed in Lyon around vocalist Xavier Théret, guitarists Antoine Simon and Pierrick Marin, bassist Marion Leclerc, drummer Benjamin Pic, and keyboardist Tiphaine Coudert. Their 2005 debut Affliction, Endocrine... Vertigo (Candlelight Records) fused doom, industrial, gothic rock, death and black metal into an oppressive, droning, oftentimes sludgy whole, while 2007's Born Again stretched that approach into a single 40-minute piece that NME later named among its 'Twenty Heaviest (Metal) Records of All Time.'

Thecodontion is a Rome-based black/death metal band formed in 2016 around the unusual choice to abandon guitars entirely, building their sound from two finger-picked distorted basses (plus a third for solos), drums, and vocals. Their releases, including the 2020 full-length Supercontinent on I, Voidhanger Records, follow a 'prehistoric metal of death' concept tracing Earth's continental drift and ancient lifeforms. Blood Incantation are an American death-metal band from Denver, Colorado, formed in 2011 around guitarist-vocalist Paul Riedl and drummer Isaac Faulk. Their 2016 debut Starspawn, on Dark Descent Records, drew wide acclaim for its cavernous, progressive, cosmically themed death metal; they later moved to Century Media and stretched their palette across the fully ambient synth album Timewave Zero (2022) and the sprawling Absolute Elsewhere (2024). 0N0 is a Bratislava, Slovakia doom/death trio built around Twisted (aka Saboska, guitars/vocals/programming, the project's founder since 2005), Acidmilk (guitars, vocals) and Sarkast (vocals), who joined in 2013 to turn Twisted's solo vision into a full band. Their sound welds drop-tuned doom-death riffing to industrial discord, blast-beat intensity and field-recording textures, drawing comparisons to Gorguts, Meshuggah, Godflesh and Blut aus Nord. Still unsigned, they've built a cult reputation through releases like 'Reconstruction and Synthesis' (2016) and 'Unwavering Resonance' (2022) and a 2019 split with fellow atmospheric-doom act Owl.

Persistence in Mourning is the Oklahoma City-based solo funeral doom project of Andy Lippoldt, active since 2006, described as sitting between funeral doom, death industrial, power electronics and death metal.

Ecliptic is the solo experimental-death/drone-noise vehicle of Michael Baer, active since 2017, originally based in San Diego and now Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Distinct from an older Virginia melodic black metal band of the same name (dormant since 2010), this Ecliptic is a prolific bedroom-auteur catalog of noise-drone singles, serialist sound pieces and black/death-tinged full-lengths like 'Undulating Echoes of Stirring Subconscious' (2019), with newer material (2024-2026) branching into related side projects. One-man US avant-garde black/death metal project by the artist known only as R.P., combining heavily syncopated death-metal riffing with nightmarish soundscapes, industrial rhythms and film-score-like atmospheric passages. No Clean Singing (2017) singled out its 'distinctly smooth' unfurling and sparing-but-grand blast-beat eruptions against a mostly slower, tech-doom-leaning foundation. Emptiness are a Brussels avant-garde metal act formed in 1998 by bassist/vocalist Jérémie Bézier and guitarist Olivier J.L.W., both formerly of Enthroned (not in the E.M.M.A. atlas). Metal Archives tracks their evolution from Black/Death Metal in the early years toward Post-Metal/Post-Punk on later records, and their own bio describes the arc as moving 'through black and death metal, avant-garde experimentation, and claustrophobic minimalism.' Now signed to Season of Mist, their 2026 album Nowhere Speaks was tracked live in studio and deliberately loops back into the closing riff of 2014's Nothing But the Whole; the band also played Roadburn Redux 2021.
