White Moth is a one-off 2010 studio collective assembled by Pyramids' R. Loren, splicing black-metal guitar churn, digital-hardcore breakbeats, no-wave saxophone, and musique-concrete textures into a single dense suite. The guest roster (Colin Marston, Sam Hillmer, Alec Empire, Lydia Lunch, Dälek, Christoph Heemann, Jacob Kirkegaard) reads like a cross-section of the American and European experimental underground rather than a touring band. It sits closer to a curated art-collaboration than a genre act, but its metal-guitar/electronics collision earns its avant-garde-metal chart placement.

OLD (an acronym for Old Lady Drivers) was a New Jersey band formed in 1986 by James Plotkin and Alan Dubin out of the remains of Plotkin's grindcore act Regurgitation, releasing its self-titled debut of tongue-in-cheek grindcore on Earache Records in 1988. Across subsequent records the group shed its grind roots for avant-garde and industrial metal on Lo Flux Tube (1991) before shifting almost entirely into techno, industrial and electronica on its final album Formula (1995), by which point OLD had contracted to a Plotkin/Dubin duo. This dramatic grind-to-electronic transformation makes OLD an era-split candidate in the atlas. After OLD dissolved, Plotkin and Dubin went on to form the experimental doom band Khanate.

Kekal is an Indonesian avant-garde/experimental act formed in Jakarta in 1995, one of the first Southeast Asian extreme-metal bands to reach an international audience. Beginning in black/death metal, they transformed across their discography into a genre-collapsing project spanning progressive metal, jazz fusion, trip-hop, electronic/IDM, ambient and post-rock — the 2003 breakthrough 1000 Thoughts of Violence being the pivot. Since August 2009 the band has operated as a 'memberless' collective, with former members and volunteer contributors assembling new albums.

Stagnant Waters is a Franco-Norwegian avant-garde project built around multi-instrumentalist Camille Giraudeau (Smohalla), joined by vocalist Svein Egil 'Zweizz' Hatlevik (Fleurety, ex-Dødheimsgard) and woodwinds/drums player Aymeric Thomas (Pryapisme). Reviewers describe the music as jittering between free jazz, glitch electronics, black metal and mathy dadaist improvisation, with a 2024 comeback album, Rifts, following a 2012 self-titled debut.

Umbah is the solo avant-garde industrial death metal/cybergrind project of UK multi-instrumentalist Cal Scott (formerly guitarist of grind act Necrosanct), running since 1990 and released largely through I, Voidhanger Records. Extremely prolific (dozens of albums across sci-fi/absurdist concept releases like 'Continuum,' 'Xominod,' and 'Obliticus'), the project fuses industrial death/grind with harsh electronics and jazz-tinged arrangements into what reviewers call 'techno-organic metal.'

Telefon Tel Aviv is an American electronic act formed in 1999 in New Orleans by high-school friends Joshua Eustis and Charles Cooper, known for a lush, melodic strain of IDM, ambient techno, and glitch. Their debut Fahrenheit Fair Enough (2001) paired intricate glitch programming with warm, romantic textures, while the synth-driven Immolate Yourself (2009) marked a darker turn. Cooper died in January 2009 just as that album was released; Eustis put the project on hold before reviving it as sole member in 2016.

Vile Dissonance is the instrumental solo project of Dutch musician Edwin van Koppen, fusing mathcore and technical death-metal aggression with free-jazz harmony and ambient electronics. Across releases such as Metalheads are a Bunch of Conservative Fuckers (2020) and Music Theory Is a Social Convention (2021), phased-out low-tuned HM2 guitars and polyrhythmic drumming sit alongside analog synths and field recordings, with the artist citing touchstones ranging from Meshuggah and Knocked Loose to jazz-fusion guitarists Allan Holdsworth, Fredrik Thordendal and Marc Ribot, and ambient acts Boards of Canada and Air. The result plays like free jazz and mathcore trying to absorb one another.

KK Null (Kazuyuki Kishino, b. 1961, Tokyo) is a prolific Japanese noise and experimental musician — composer, guitarist, vocalist and electronicist — who founded the progressive-hardcore trio Zeni Geva and the project Absolut Null Punkt, and has released well over 100 albums. His solo electronics moved onto Neurot Recordings with Atomik Disorder (2003) and Oxygen Flash (2009). He has collaborated widely, with named partners including Merzbow, Keiji Haino, James Plotkin, John Zorn, Fred Frith, Jim O'Rourke and Boredoms' Seiichi Yamamoto.

Skin Tension is a Nashville, Tennessee experimental duo of Joshua D. Byrd and Edward Longo, working across avant-garde metal, dissonant black metal, mathcore, and free improvisation. Their sprawling discography, including the 27-hour, 131-track compilation Omni, mixes noise, ambient textures, jazz, and glitch electronics with metal aggression. The 2023 album Celebrant marked the project's first fully composed release after years of improvisation-based recording, made at their home studio The Valley of Defilement in Nashville.

Corrections House is an American industrial-sludge supergroup formed in 2012, bringing together Scott Kelly of Neurosis, Mike IX Williams of Eyehategod, Sanford Parker, and Bruce Lamont of Yakuza. The group methodically creates and destroys through dark, apocalyptic soundscapes built from riffs, saxophone, electronic loops, and Williams' corroded vocals. They released their debut album Last City Zero (2013) and its follow-up Know How to Carry a Whip (2015) on Neurot Recordings.
