Greymachine is an experimental industrial noise project formed in 2006, built around Godflesh and Jesu frontman Justin Broadrick and Isis frontman Aaron Turner, with bassists Dave Cochrane (Head of David) and Diarmuid Dalton (Jesu). Broadrick described it as needing "something black to Jesu's white," pairing crushing beats, dissonant guitar, and harsh electronics. Their debut album Disconnected was produced by Broadrick and released on 4 August 2009 via Turner's label Hydra Head Records.

Old Man Gloom is an experimental sludge/post-metal supergroup formed in 1999 in Santa Fe, New Mexico by Aaron Turner (Isis) and drummer Santos Montano, later expanding with musicians from the Boston hardcore and metalcore scene. Their music juxtaposes crushing sludge and hardcore with noise, drone, and ambient soundscapes. Bassist/vocalist Caleb Scofield died in a car accident in March 2018; Stephen Brodsky, his Cave In bandmate, subsequently joined the band. Their albums have appeared on labels including Hydra Head Records (and its Tortuga imprint), founded by Aaron Turner, as well as Profound Lore.

Zonal are the British duo of Justin Broadrick (Godflesh) and Kevin Martin (The Bug), a reactivation of their 1990s Techno Animal partnership trading in cavernous bass, cacophonous dub and ear-splitting drone. Their debut album Wrecked was released on Relapse Records on 25 October 2019, with Philadelphia poet-vocalist Moor Mother featured across its first six tracks. The record was mastered by Stefan Betke (Pole) and pairs industrial hip-hop menace with drone-metal weight.

North Carolina solo producer (Roxanne Jonas Radclyffe) whose December 2024 album VIRLGOID pairs maximalist, self-mixed/mastered production with metal riffing and a fragmented trans-vigilante narrative concept; RateYourMusic tags the record Avant-Garde Metal/Post-Metal, and her own Bandcamp genre tags span deathstep, drone metal, industrial metal, nu metal and "metamodernism." One of dozens of aliased projects in a prolific, DIY internet-native discography.

Killing Joke are an English post-punk band formed in Notting Hill, London in 1979, whose 'tension music' fused aggressive rhythms with gothic, industrial and metallic weight across landmark records like Night Time (1985) and Pandemonium (1994). Frontman Jaz Coleman's apocalyptic delivery and the band's dense, dubwise heaviness made them a widely cited influence on industrial and alternative acts including Metallica, Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails. Longtime bassist Paul Raven, who joined in 1982, was later briefly recruited for a planned Godflesh US tour that collapsed before it began.

OLD (an acronym for Old Lady Drivers) was a New Jersey band formed in 1986 by James Plotkin and Alan Dubin out of the remains of Plotkin's grindcore act Regurgitation, releasing its self-titled debut of tongue-in-cheek grindcore on Earache Records in 1988. Across subsequent records the group shed its grind roots for avant-garde and industrial metal on Lo Flux Tube (1991) before shifting almost entirely into techno, industrial and electronica on its final album Formula (1995), by which point OLD had contracted to a Plotkin/Dubin duo. This dramatic grind-to-electronic transformation makes OLD an era-split candidate in the atlas. After OLD dissolved, Plotkin and Dubin went on to form the experimental doom band Khanate.

Cult of Luna is a Swedish post-metal band formed in 1998 in Umeå, emerging from members of the local hardcore group Eclipse. Widely regarded as a leading force in post-metal alongside Neurosis and Isis, their songs are long, slow and crushing, layering heavy distorted passages with orchestral interludes and post-rock-esque forays. Their discography includes Salvation (2004), Somewhere Along the Highway (2006), and the Metropolis-inspired Vertikal (2013). In 2016 they released the space-themed collaborative album Mariner, recorded with American vocalist Julie Christmas.

The Ocean (also known as The Ocean Collective) is a German post-metal band formed in 2000 in Berlin by guitarist and principal composer Robin Staps, built around a fluid, revolving cast of musicians. Their sound blends post-metal, progressive metal, sludge and avant-garde elements across ambitious concept albums exploring geology, evolution and oceanic depths, including Precambrian (2007), the paired Heliocentric and Anthropocentric (2010), Pelagial (2013), and the Phanerozoic double-album series (2018-2020). The band released early records via Make My Day Records before signing to Metal Blade Records, and Staps also runs the post-metal imprint Pelagic Records.

Abishai is the lo-fi noise-rock vehicle of Torrance, California multi-instrumentalist Abishai Smith (aliases DJ Bathtub, Eden, Mizpah), who splatters feedback, drum machines, and kazoo across deliberately unpolished sludge, no wave, and noisecore excursions. The 43-track 'Raw and Legendary!!!' (2017) is a maximalist, comedic blowout of punk-metal bits, while the wider catalog under various aliases swings into death industrial, drone, power electronics, and ambient territory — DIY extremity closer to a bedroom noise scene than conventional metal songcraft.

Scorn is an experimental industrial, dub, and isolationist project formed in Birmingham, England, in 1991 by drummer Mick Harris and vocalist/bassist Nic Bullen, both former members of grindcore pioneers Napalm Death. Beginning as an industrial metal band on the 1992 debut Vae Solis, the project rapidly moved away from its metal roots toward dark dub, hip-hop, and post-industrial ambient, notably on 1994's Evanescence. Bullen left in April 1995, after which Harris (also of Painkiller with John Zorn and Bill Laswell) continued Scorn as a solo vehicle focused on extremely low, heavy bass frequencies.
