Fear Factory

Containor is a Queens, New York experimental/noise trio pairing death-metal extremity with electronics: John Longstreth (Origin) on drums, warr guitar, practice pad and guitar trigger, John DeBlase on synth/computer/casio, and Colin Marston (Krallice, Gorguts, Dysrhythmia) on synth drums, metronome, fake bass, keys, casio, plus editing/mixing/mastering. Released the 'ASSHOLE' EP (2018) and 'DISEASE CUBE: REMOTELY CONTROLLED' (2021), both leaning into blast-driven, electronically mangled noise rather than straight metal songcraft.

Disfiguring the Goddess is the long-running solo vehicle of Cameron Argon — better known as dubstep producer Big Chocolate — who writes, produces, and performs everything himself, fusing brutal slam/deathcore with dubstep-derived electronic programming. It's less a scene band than an outsider hybrid: extreme-metal viciousness filtered through EDM production instincts, with lyrical fixations on cosmic horror and video games. Nearly two decades of self-released and Seek & Strike-backed output (Circle of Nine through 2026's Bloom) have made it one of underground death metal's more idiosyncratic solo-project success stories.

Zone Eater is the sample-based 'slug metal / dethwave' solo project of Alex Koenig — better known for his vaporwave-adjacent Nmesh project — active since 2015 and based in Louisville, Kentucky. Its debut EP Triangle Island (2015) chops death metal and grindcore samples into chaotic collages, described by Darkfloor Sound as 'a raucous, intense ride of sonics and slurred samples.' Koenig has since released a two-hour collaborative double album with San Francisco's Sea of Dogs on the CHAMBER 38 cassette label.

Strapping Young Lad is Devin Townsend's industrial/thrash/death metal band, active 1994–2007 with a stable lineup of Townsend, guitarist Jed Simon, bassist Byron Stroud and drummer Gene Hoglan (also of Dark Angel, Death, Testament). Built on polyrhythmic riffing and blast beats, the band is best known for a hyper-dense, multitracked "wall of sound" production style critics compared to Phil Spector and Frank Zappa, drawing on the harsh industrial/noise lineage of Foetus and White Noise. City (1997) was the critical breakthrough; The New Black (2006) leaned back into the band's tongue-in-cheek black humor before their 2007 disbandment.

A UK extreme-metal collaboration led by Wildhearts frontman Ginger Wildheart with Scott Lee Andrews (Exit International) and drummer Denzel, functioning as a revolving-door supergroup anchored by Napalm Death's Shane Embury. The double debut The Frankenstein Effect / Error 500 (2013) folds in Merzbow noise and Mark E. Smith spoken-word, veering from melodic pop-metal hooks into industrial noise-grind chaos. Error 500 was released on Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings.

Noism is a Tokyo duo — guitarist Yoshiro Hamazaki and programmer Tomoyuki Akiyama — active since 1999, built around brutally complex, glitched-out programmed-drum death/grind instrumentals. Rather than a live drummer, Akiyama chops and resplices machine-gun drum programming into rhythms that verge on IDM/breakcore, layered under Hamazaki's dissonant, shredding riffs. Their sole full-length, ± (2008, Crucial Blast), followed a run of demos and a Relapse compilation appearance, and stands as one of the more literal 'glitch' bridges between deathgrind and electronic music.

Intestinal Disgorge is a noisegrind/brutal death metal project from San Antonio, Texas, running since 1996 and centered on member "R" (drums, guitars, bass, electronics, additional vocals). Starting as a straightforward goregrind act, the project shifted in the 2010s toward a self-described "Absurd DeathNoiseGrind"/"GlitchGrind" sound that runs power electronics, cut-up production, harsh noise and cybergrind through brutal death-grind songwriting, with one reviewer likening it to "a Grindcore version of Gnaw Their Tongues." The band's extensive discography of albums, EPs, splits and demos is released through Meat 5000 Records.

Umbah is the solo avant-garde industrial death metal/cybergrind project of UK multi-instrumentalist Cal Scott (formerly guitarist of grind act Necrosanct), running since 1990 and released largely through I, Voidhanger Records. Extremely prolific (dozens of albums across sci-fi/absurdist concept releases like 'Continuum,' 'Xominod,' and 'Obliticus'), the project fuses industrial death/grind with harsh electronics and jazz-tinged arrangements into what reviewers call 'techno-organic metal.'

Vvon Dogma I is the Montreal project of 9-string bassist Chaoth (Frederick F.), formerly of avant-garde metal act Unexpect, formed after that band's split to keep exploring extended-range bass tunings and genre-collision songwriting. With Kevin Alexander (drums), Yoan MP (guitar), and Blaise Borboën (synths/strings/production), they mix progressive/djent metal with industrial-electronic and vocoder-heavy glitch textures — their 2023 album The Kvlt of Glitch even includes a Radiohead cover and was co-produced with Cryptopsy's Chris Donaldson. Some material started life as unfinished Unexpect ideas before being reworked into the new project.

Sete Star Sept are a Tokyo noisecore/noisegrind duo formed in 2004 by drummer Kiyasu (ex-The Endless Blockade), now comprising Kae (bass, vocals) and Kiyasu (drums). Gerogerigegege-influenced and staggeringly prolific with well over 180 releases, they trade in short bursts of blasting chaos and pure noise. Relentless tourers, they have crisscrossed the global grind/noise underground via countless split records.
