Void is a UK avant-garde/fringe metal project active since 1999, built around founding member and guitarist/vocalist Matt Jarman. Press consistently bills the band as 'avant-garde metal pioneers,' fusing black, death and industrial metal with noise, electronica and post-metal songwriting, citing touchstones from Dødheimsgard and Emperor to Aphex Twin and Venetian Snares. The current lineup grew directly out of Dødheimsgard's 2019 'Void Dancers' tour, and features musicians who also play in Dødheimsgard and Doedsmaghird. Their fourth album, Jadjow (2023, Brucia Records), was co-written by that touring lineup.

Lychgate is a London-based avant-garde black/doom metal band formed around 2011-2012, built on a foundation of pipe/church organ used as the compositional backbone of every track. Their influences span late-19th/early-20th-century art music, Rock in Opposition and musique concrete. They record for Debemur Morti Productions, with a discography running from the 2013 self-titled debut through 2025's 'Precipice.'

Biesy is a Kraków trio formed in 2014 around guitarist/bassist PR, joined by vocalist Stawrogin (also of Odraza, Totenmesse) and drummer MP (also of Outre), taking their concept from Dostoevsky's Demons and the alienation of urban life. Their 2017 debut Noc Lekkich Obyczajów (Third Eye Temple) delivers dissonant, disjointed black/death riffing compared to Ulcerate, Deathspell Omega, Immolation and Gorguts. The 2020 follow-up Transsatanizm (Godz ov War Productions) pushed further into avant-garde territory, layering industrial synths and looping electro beats over blackened riffs, described by reviewers as 'avangardish, industrial-infused post-rock/post-black.'

Hex Arcana is an international avant-garde/black metal project based in Tampere, Finland, led by American multi-instrumentalist Matron Thorn (also of Ævangelist and Præternatura) with vocalist Frater A.A. and Erethe Arashiel on vocals/artwork. The project operated 2018-2020 as Devil Worshipper before adopting the Hex Arcana name, fusing dissonant black metal with industrial textures, doom, and occult theatrics for I, Voidhanger Records. The 2022 album 'Eternally Yours' was mixed and mastered by Jeremie Bezier of Emptiness.

Saprovore is the solo industrial black/death metal project of an Italian musician also known for the band Strigiform, released through I, Voidhanger Records. His album 'Numinous Abditory Deflagration' (2026) is described by the artist as exploring 'cosmic emptiness' with a more refined, symphonic-leaning songwriting approach than his debut 'Unuttered Aporetic Omen.' Cited influences include Gnaw Their Tongues, Jute Gyte, Blut Aus Nord, and Thantifaxath (stated influences, not collaborations).

Oranssi Pazuzu is a Finnish psychedelic black metal band formed in 2007 in Tampere. Their sound fuses black metal with psychedelic rock, space rock, krautrock, dark ambient and electronic textures into a hypnotic, boundary-dissolving whole, a synthesis critics have struggled to categorize. Across six studio albums, from Muukalainen puhuu (2009) to the acclaimed Muuntautuja (2024), they have become one of the most celebrated exports of Finland's experimental heavy underground.

French duo led by multi-instrumentalist Slo (guitars/drums/vocals/keys) with bassist Camille Giraudeau, playing avant-garde/progressive post-black metal descended from Emperor, Ulver, Borknagar and Ved Buens Ende. After a 12-year gap between albums, 2025's Ruina Draconis (I, Voidhanger) piles on 'extremely layered', ambient-electronic interludes between bursts of blackened violence. Giraudeau's parallel work in Dødheimsgard's touring lineup, Doedsmaghird, Stagnant Waters and Void ties Smohalla directly into the same avant-black/noise diaspora.

Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Oslo in 1984, and one of the founding architects of the Norwegian black metal scene whose cold, abrasive sound shaped the entire genre. Their debut full-length De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994) — completed amid the deaths of vocalist Dead and guitarist/founder Euronymous — remains a defining record, and its signature song "Freezing Moon" a black metal touchstone. The long-running lineup pairs founding bassist Necrobutcher and drummer Hellhammer with Hungarian vocalist Attila Csihar, whose otherworldly, ritualistic delivery also anchors the drone-metal group Sunn O))).

Gardenjia is a Brindisi, Italy act formed in 2010 that started in djent/experimental territory before drifting into cinematic, atonal experimental black metal steeped in film and anime scores; 2018's Machina Dei explicitly quotes Ghost in the Shell and reworks Franz Liszt. Built around Raffaele Galasso with Giuseppe Miglietta and Antonio Martire, the trio remains unsigned and self-releases via Bandcamp.

Doedsmaghird is an avant-garde/industrial black metal project formed in 2022 by Yusaf 'Vicotnik' Parvez of Dodheimsgard - its name a literal anagram of its parent band - with fellow Dodheimsgard guitarist Camille Giraudeau co-writing the material. Debut album Omniverse Consciousness (Peaceville, 2024) pushes Dodheimsgard's electronic and industrial tendencies further still, layering glitchy synth textures, samples, and choirs over blasting black metal, and has been described by press as Dodheimsgard's 'more grim and malevolent twin.'
