Crown of Ascension

Isa was a solo Dutch black metal project from Arnhem, active only in 2008, releasing a single limited CD-R, Eindeloos, before disbanding. The record pairs raw, repetitive tremolo riffing with minimal, ambient-tinged guitar textures across three long, depressive tracks dealing with loneliness and isolation. It is a minor, self-contained entry in the Dutch DSBM/atmospheric underground with no documented links to other scene names.

Portuguese experimental/atmospheric black metal project from Porto, self-styled 'Underwater Black Metal', built around Francisco Braga (aka Bragadast) and Artur Leão (aka Einsichtmar). Their 2022 album εἴδωλον weaves mythological narrative through drone-laden passages, tribal instrumentation (didgeridoo, berimbau, hangpan), and abrupt shifts between raging black metal and gentle ambient interludes.

Gelassenheit is the solo avant-garde/atmospheric black metal project of Uncumber (Mave/Abe Goren), based in Brooklyn/New York and active since 2020. The self-titled album blends symphonic black metal, avant-garde metal, dungeon synth, depressive black metal, and coldwave into a synth-heavy sound built around explicitly Christian-anarchist ('Red and Anarchist Black Metal') themes of communal living, care for the poor, and anti-fascism, framed by the artist as 'using Christianity as a tool for advocacy and unique aesthetic cultivation' rather than evangelism. Uncumber is a trans woman and has described the project in interviews as unblack, RABM-aligned black metal.

Ragnarökkur is an atmospheric black metal project whose Bandcamp lists Iceland as its home (Metal Archives instead tags it Finland/Iceland, suggesting a split/international lineup), built around the core pairing of Matron Thorn (strings and synthetics) and Nefarious (drums and percussion), with Palmi and Stefan on voice and guest female vocals from Kabukimono. Its sole release to date, the 2021 demo Fjöldagröf Goðanna, sets furious, technically dense atmospheric black metal against Icelandic-language song titles drawn from Norse mythology (the name itself is an Icelandic form of Ragnarök), with orchestral synth layering thickening the atmosphere. Beyond that one five-track demo there is no further discography or biographical material available.

greyfleshtethered is the solo electronic black metal project of Daria, recording from the Connecticut woods and citing ambient black metal touchstones like Paysage d'Hiver, Neige et Noirceur, Trist, and Arkhtinn. 2021's 'The Dark Being' is an 83-minute, five-track narrative journey through alternate dimensions that blends atmospheric black metal with dark ambient, dungeon synth, and shoegaze textures. Live, the project splits its set between guitar and soundboard-triggered electronics. The project is explicitly framed as trans anarchist and anti-fascist within the black metal underground.

Project Nefast is a black metal project from Utrecht/Amsterdam, Netherlands, releasing through Tartarus Records, known for an absurdist, nihilism-inflected take on black metal built from 'noise, drone and repetition' rather than straightforward riffing. Key releases include Discomfort (2015), Dogma (2016), Sex Money Power (2017/2018) and NEE (2018); the band has performed at Roadburn Festival. Active as 'Nefast' 2013-2017, renamed 'Project Nefast' 2017 onward.

Towards Rusted Soil is a black metal side project of Tamás Kátai, better known as the founder/mainman of Thy Catafalque (and also of Gort and Gire), on which he performed all vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards and programming himself. The project released two demos, Forsaken in Fog (2000) and A Landscape Slumbering (2003), before its material was reissued on a 2014 four-way split alongside fellow Makó-scene acts Gort, Namtar and Gire.

Omega Centauri is a UK-based atmospheric black metal project built around multi-instrumentalist Tom Vallely, blending glacial tremolo-riff black metal with dark ambient textures, doom-paced passages, and cinematic post-rock swells. Recorded piecemeal between 2006 and 2011, debut Universum Infinitum favors slow-burn atmosphere and philosophical/theological themes over aggression. The project sits in the same cold-and-spacious atmospheric black metal lineage as labelmates on Duplicate Records.

Gort was a short-lived Hungarian dark/black metal project from Makó, active 1998-2000, that served as the direct predecessor to Thy Catafalque. Founded by Tamás Kátai and János Juhász together with bassist Péter Gáspár and drummer Zoltán Kónya (later of Gire), the band released a single EP, Forest Myths (2000, reissued 2023), before Kátai and Juhász moved on to found the more extreme and experimental Thy Catafalque.

Murmuüre is a French one-man avant-garde black metal project (sole member Felix Naos) whose enigmatic 2010 self-titled album was assembled over three years from a single one-hour guitar improvisation recorded in November 2006, edited and re-layered into a ritualistic sound collage. The result blends black-metal instrumentation with dark ambient, drone, noise and psychedelic textures — 'a churning, claustrophobic mix of queasy underwater black metal... glitchy, phantom drones'. It was released on Cold Void Emanations and Aurora Borealis Recordings.
