Liturgy is an American avant-garde black metal band from Brooklyn, founded in 2005 and led by composer-guitarist-vocalist Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix. The project is built around a self-authored 'transcendental black metal' philosophy and ranges from blast-driven maximalist black metal to the glitch/IDM electronics of The Ark Work and the choral, orchestral scope of later records like 93696. Critically prominent, The Ark Work was named the #1 avant-garde album of 2015 by both Spin and Rolling Stone.

Occulted Death Stance is the central sonic-ritual vehicle of English outsider collective Anti-Social Kultur England (A.S.K.E.), fusing raw black metal with power-noise electronics, industrial abrasion, and oi-punk snarl across a steady stream of cassette and vinyl releases (Feathered Serpent, Crush Your Enemies, Wake & Hate). The music favors confrontational noise-collage and ritualistic atmosphere over conventional song structure. It reads less like death metal and more like black metal's junk-electronics/noise fringe.

Violent Magic Orchestra (VMO) is an Osaka-based art-music/extreme collective that fuses corpse-painted black metal with peak-time techno, gabber, industrial and noise. The ensemble pairs Japanese avant-metal band Vampillia with international collaborators — ex-Yellow Swans electronicist Pete Swanson and French producer Mondkopf (as Extreme Precautions) — plus visual artist Kezzardrix, staging blindingly strobe-lit performance-art shows. Their 2016 debut Catastrophic Anonymous (Virgin Babylon Records domestically, Throatruiner/Deathwish worldwide) was mastered by James Plotkin and featured guest vocals from Attila Csihar (Sunn O)))/Mayhem) and Chip King (The Body); the 2024 follow-up Death Rave (Never Sleep) again enlisted Csihar alongside Dylan Walker of Full of Hell.

Kakofonium is a Poznań, Poland black metal project wrapped in an elaborate original mythology about 'Cybertemplars' who chose black metal as their weapon in a cosmic 'Final Crusade.' Musically it fuses raw/experimental black metal with cybergrind, synth-punk and dungeon-synth textures, self-described as 'cyber-blackened-death-metal.' It's DIY tape/bandcamp culture at its most conceptually unhinged.

SADWRIST is a French solo artist and self-described pioneer of the 'trashwave' aesthetic, fusing harsh noise, witch-house, djent, black metal, and trap into dense, glitch-riddled tracks. Song and album titles are rendered almost entirely in stylized Unicode symbols, extending the project's noisy, deliberately unstable identity into its visual presentation as much as its sound.

Solo industrial black/death metal project of Charlie Davis (also vocalist/bassist of sludge band Beggar and of the punk project Wasted Death), based in London, England. Debut album Paroxysms (2022) fuses grinding, blast-beat black metal with mechanized industrial-dub textures, deliberate 'inhuman' digital glitches, and ritualistic chant-like vocal passages, drawing conceptually on Philip K. Dick's VALIS and Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago.

The Kovenant are a Norwegian band formed in 1992 (as Covenant) in Hamar that began in symphonic black metal and reinvented itself as industrial/cyber 'space metal' after its 1999 rename. The pivotal 1998 album Nexus Polaris, released on Nuclear Blast, drew in Mayhem drummer Jan Axel 'Hellhammer' Blomberg, who has remained the band's drummer. Fronted by Lex Icon (ex-Dimmu Borgir) and Psy Coma, their programming-drenched sound sits at the electronic edge of the Norwegian avant-black scene.

Tub Ring is an experimental rock band formed in Chicago in 1992 and built around the enduring core duo of vocalist Kevin Gibson and keyboardist Rob Kleiner. Their frenetic, hairpin genre-swerving sound — colliding punk, new wave, noise, funk and electronics under sci-fi and cosmological lyrics — earned them a reputation as a kind of Midwestern Mr. Bungle, a comparison sealed when Bungle guitarist Trey Spruance produced their 2001 debut Drake Equation. Their concept-driven album titles (Drake Equation, Fermi Paradox, Zoo Hypothesis, The Great Filter) riff on theories about extraterrestrial life.

The Wicked was a short-lived (1999-c.2005) Finnish melodic black/industrial/avant-garde metal act from Uusimaa, released on Spikefarm Records, built around Necrotron (guitars, keyboards - real name Henri 'Trollhorn' Sorvali, also of Moonsorrow and Finntroll) and vocalist Lucius M.K. Their two albums, ...For Theirs Is the Flesh (2002) and Sonic Scriptures of the End Times (2004), pile industrial beats, voice-over samples, and symphonic/new-age keyboard writing onto a black-metal chassis, drawing comparisons to a metal Danny Elfman scoring a Tim Burton film. It's a genuinely odd, theatrical corner of the late-90s/early-2000s Finnish extreme scene.

Cursed Mantis is a 2020 collaborative 'synthgrind' concept album pairing Quebec electronic/industrial producer Gloom Influx with Swedish vocalist Alojla and noise/grind vocalist The Toilet. Subtitled 'A Synthgrind Opera in 19 Acts,' it tells an absurdist sci-fi story of cursed, cheese-obsessed alien mantises, swinging between chiptune interludes, synthwave passages, and blast-heavy grindcore.
