Damned Spirits' Dance is a Budapest, Hungary act (active 2002–2013+) that began as melodic black-death metal and mutated into a genuinely odd hybrid of blackened riffing, quirky synths, clean vocals, and circus-tinged theatricality, released via the Dutch label Vic Records and then Italy's Code666. Critics discussing Hungarian avant-garde metal have grouped the band alongside Arcturus and Unexpect for its playful, off-kilter approach to extremity. Their sole full-length, Weird Constellations (2009), is the clearest document of the sound.

Ram-Zet is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band formed in Hamar in 1998 as the solo vehicle of vocalist/guitarist Zet (Henning Ramseth), later expanding into a full band. Their self-described 'schizo-metal' welds black/thrash foundations to industrial textures, prominent violin and rare time signatures, framed by concept albums about schizophrenia with dual harsh/clean vocals. Their experimentalism sits largely in the progressive, technical and black-metal dimensions rather than the exotic 'weird' axes.

Ensoph is an Italian avant-garde gothic/industrial metal project from Venice, active from 1997 (emerging from the prog-doom band Endaymynion) into the 2010s and signed at various points to Cruz del Sur Music. Their name, Hebrew for 'infinity,' signals the band's abiding interest in esotericism, Kabbalah and apocalyptic theology, filtered through a sound that moved from dense avant-garde gothic metal on early records toward techno/industrial-driven arrangements by 2009's Rex Mundi X-Ile. Critics likened aspects of their sound to The Kovenant and Marilyn Manson, though the arrangements were often described as 'busy' to the point of overcrowded.

Age of Silence is a Norwegian avant-garde progressive metal 'supergroup' formed in Oslo in 2004 by keyboardist Andy Winter of Winds, drawing members from Mayhem, Arcturus, The Kovenant, and Solefald. Their sole album, Acceleration (2004, The End Records), pairs 'aggressive guitar grind' with Winter's gothic, classically-tinged piano and synths, occasionally veering into pure electronic beats, per a Sputnikmusic review. A follow-up EP, Complications – Trilogy of Intricacy (2005), preceded a long hiatus for the project.

Transcending Bizarre? are a Thessaloniki avant-garde/symphonic black metal band formed in 2000, built around guitarist Theoharis Liratzakis and keyboardist/vocalist Haris. Across three albums (The Four Scissors, 2003; The Serpent's Manifolds, 2008; The Misanthrope's Fable, 2010) they mixed icy black metal with synths, samples and a theatrical, surrealist fairy-tale aesthetic one reviewer compared to a Tim Burton soundtrack. In 2010 Liratzakis and Haris used the band as a launchpad to found Hail Spirit Noir, carrying much of Transcending Bizarre?'s eerie, keyboard-driven avant-black approach into that project.

Carnival in Coal was a French extreme/avant-garde metal duo formed in Amiens in 1995 by vocalist Arno Strobl and multi-instrumentalist Axel Wursthorn, active until 2007 (briefly revived 2014). The band mixed death and black metal with disco, pop, reggae, and chamber-rock elements under a recurring carnival/circus concept, releasing albums via War On Majors, Season of Mist, and Earache's Elitist imprint. Critics drew comparisons to Faith No More/Mr. Bungle, Frank Zappa, and John Zorn for the band's genre-defying juxtapositions.

The Wicked was a short-lived (1999-c.2005) Finnish melodic black/industrial/avant-garde metal act from Uusimaa, released on Spikefarm Records, built around Necrotron (guitars, keyboards - real name Henri 'Trollhorn' Sorvali, also of Moonsorrow and Finntroll) and vocalist Lucius M.K. Their two albums, ...For Theirs Is the Flesh (2002) and Sonic Scriptures of the End Times (2004), pile industrial beats, voice-over samples, and symphonic/new-age keyboard writing onto a black-metal chassis, drawing comparisons to a metal Danny Elfman scoring a Tim Burton film. It's a genuinely odd, theatrical corner of the late-90s/early-2000s Finnish extreme scene.

Folgers is the 'Cult of Folgers' — a Tennessee bedroom project built around raw black metal and harsh noise, entirely fixated on the Folgers coffee brand as a running joke/lore concept (album titles include 'Damn Right, It's Folgers!' and 'Folgers Hates Maxwells'). Main contributor Hystalgia handles vocals/screams/growls, guitar, bass, synths, noise and production, blending household-object noise sources (shower, microwave, coffee maker) into the black-metal base, with Sikaydah contributing cover art and noise. The project is absurdly prolific — dozens of releases since its founding in December 2021 via the DIY label Lucid Haze Productions — culminating in the 2024 full-length 'Summoning of the Folgers.'

Abstruse is the one-man experimental black/thrash/industrial metal project of Athens, Greece-based musician Substant, active since 2002. Substant composes via an idiosyncratic 'order-based system' that treats intervals as numeric patterns rather than conventional scales, and has built custom software ('motion2sound') to translate movement into sound and multi-sensory staging elements. The project's 2019 album Submerge: Ritual is structured as a conceptual 'Pan Ritual' narrative; a 2010 demo, Ivory Tower, was ranked among the year's top albums by the Avantgarde Metal webzine.

Creatvre is the solo project of French multi-instrumentalist Raphaël Fournier (Paris), who performs every instrument himself — guitars, bass, drums, synths, trombone, trumpet, and saxophone. His 2025 album Toujours Humain (released via I, Voidhanger Records) is described by critics as progressive black metal fused with electronica, industrial metal, and choral/symphonic elements, built around a 'cyber-industrial' concept of humanity dissolving into technology. The prior album Eloge de l'Ombre (2021) was named album of the year by Metal Hammer Spain.
