Palms is an American post-metal and dream-pop band formed in 2011 by three former members of Isis — bassist Jeff Caxide, drummer Aaron Harris, and guitarist/keyboardist Bryant Clifford Meyer — together with Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno. Their self-titled debut album was released on June 25, 2013 through Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings, trading Isis's sludgy heaviness for lush, shoegaze-inflected atmospheres. A 10th-anniversary edition in 2023 added the previously unreleased tracks "Opening Titles" and "End Credits".

Charming Timur is a Helsinki, Finland one-man project self-described as "a one man musical Soothing Apocalypse" spanning experimental metal, industrial and atmospheric music. Albums like "Focused Rage" (2017) blend nu-metal riffs and chaotic screaming with post-rock vibes and electronic atmospheres — the artist's own description is wanting it to sound like "the entire universe rip itself apart and yet it would sound beautiful at the same time." Rosetta is a post-metal band formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2003, blending sludge metal, post-rock, drone, ambient, and space rock into a sound the band self-describes as "metal for astronauts." Their key releases include the two-disc The Galilean Satellites (2006), Wake/Lift (2007), and A Determinism of Morality (2010), issued on Translation Loss Records before the group became fully independent. Isis were an American post-metal band formed in Boston in 1997 and later based in Los Angeles, active until their breakup in 2010. Russian Circles are an American instrumental post-metal band based in Chicago, Illinois, formed in 2004 by childhood friends Mike Sullivan (guitar) and Dave Turncrantz (drums). Since 2007 the trio has been rounded out by bassist Brian Cook, formerly of Botch and These Arms Are Snakes. Jesu are a British experimental metal band formed in 2003 by Justin Broadrick in Abergele, Wales, following the breakup of his industrial-metal band Godflesh; the name comes from the last track of Godflesh's album Hymns. Essentially Broadrick's solo vehicle, the project trades Godflesh's brutality for melancholic, heavily layered music blending shoegaze, dream pop, drone, and post-metal. Their early lineup for releases such as the Silver EP (2006) and the album Conqueror (2007) added Diarmuid Dalton on bass and Ted Parsons on drums.

Hail Architeuthis! is a chaotic instrumental metal duo from Bloomington, Indiana, combining technical, prog-metal riffing with cinematic, ambient, and post-rock textures across dynamically extreme compositions. Pelican is an American instrumental post-metal band formed in Chicago in 2001, known for heavy, atmospheric, almost entirely instrumental compositions with extended track lengths. Their debut EP and albums such as Australasia (2003), The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw (2005), and City of Echoes (2007) appeared on Hydra Head Records before the band moved to Southern Lord Records around 2009. A Perfect Circle is an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel, a former guitar tech for Tool, Nine Inch Nails and the Smashing Pumpkins, and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. Fronting a more melodic, art-rock-leaning counterpart to Tool, the band broke through with the platinum debut Mer de Noms (2000) and its David Fincher-directed single "Judith." The rotating lineup has drawn from across alternative rock, with Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, session drummer Josh Freese, and bassist Matt McJunkins among its long-running members. After a long hiatus the group returned with Eat the Elephant (2018).

Cult of Luna is a Swedish post-metal band formed in 1998 in Umeå, emerging from members of the local hardcore group Eclipse. Widely regarded as a leading force in post-metal alongside Neurosis and Isis, their songs are long, slow and crushing, layering heavy distorted passages with orchestral interludes and post-rock-esque forays. Their discography includes Salvation (2004), Somewhere Along the Highway (2006), and the Metropolis-inspired Vertikal (2013). In 2016 they released the space-themed collaborative album Mariner, recorded with American vocalist Julie Christmas.
