A UK bedroom-solo prog/avant-garde metal project by Leia Camilla that started as a full cover of Metallica's St. Anger before sprawling into mathcore, grindcore, metalcore, blackgaze, atmospheric metal, and ambient free improvisation. Related side-outlets DXO (ambient/noise/improv) and the short-lived black metal project Ljós extend the same restless, genre-hopping approach.

Nailbomb was an industrial-thrash side project formed in 1993 by Max Cavalera, then frontman of Sepultura, and English musician Alex Newport of Fudge Tunnel, welding grinding industrial metal and thrash to crust punk and sludge. Their lone studio album, Point Blank (Roadrunner, 1994), was cut largely by the duo with session help from Sepultura bandmates Igor Cavalera (drums) and Andreas Kisser (guitar) plus Fear Factory's Dino Cazares. The band played only a warm-up show and a set at the 1995 Dynamo Open Air Festival, documented on the live album Proud to Commit Commercial Suicide, before disbanding; its harsh, sample-laced attack became a cult touchstone of 90s extreme metal.

Sete Star Sept are a Tokyo noisecore/noisegrind duo formed in 2004 by drummer Kiyasu (ex-The Endless Blockade), now comprising Kae (bass, vocals) and Kiyasu (drums). Gerogerigegege-influenced and staggeringly prolific with well over 180 releases, they trade in short bursts of blasting chaos and pure noise. Relentless tourers, they have crisscrossed the global grind/noise underground via countless split records.

Vomitatrix is a Jupiter, Florida-based noisecore/acid-grind project whose self-titled debut (July 2022) was recorded in Austin, TX and mixed by drummer Weasel Walter. The band bills itself as building on the legacy of Morbid Florist, delivering ten tracks of abrasive, dada-tinged grindcore. The lineup pairs Weasel Walter (also founder/leader of The Flying Luttenbachers) with bassist Tim Dahl (Child Abuse, Lydia Lunch Retrovirus), guitarist Rick Eye, and vocalist Gyna Bootleg.

Cavalera Conspiracy is a Brazilian-American heavy metal supergroup formed in 2007 by brothers Max Cavalera (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Igor Cavalera (drums), reuniting the pair for the first time since Max left Sepultura in 1996. Trading in a raw fusion of thrash, groove, and death metal, the band made its debut with Inflikted (2008), on which Gojira's Joe Duplantier handled bass alongside guitarist Marc Rizzo. The project functions as a family channel for the brothers' primal, tribal-tinged riffing, running in parallel with Max's Soulfly and Igor's other work.

precettö is the solo avant-garde metal project of Auckland, New Zealand musician Jessie Edwards (performing as Drella), a self-produced one-person operation covering 'each instrument, sample, screech, and act of fuckery' on their own recordings. Emerging from an online shoegaze/Y2K-aesthetic scene, the music collides progressive and dissonant death metal, digital hardcore, cybergrind, breakcore and glitch electronics with ambient and shoegaze passages, resisting any single genre label (the artist's own tagline: 'i do not make prog metal'). Recent releases include Siddhartha (2025) and Siddhartha 2 (2026), the latter covered by Heavy Blog Is Heavy as a 'lovable mess of electronic and metal' engaging themes of neurodivergence and queer/trans identity.

Wetnurse was a Manhattan, New York City experimental metal/hardcore band active in the 2000s, releasing a self-titled album (2004) and Invisible City (2008, Seventh Rule Recordings, produced and mixed by Martin Bisi at BC Studios). Their sound fused early-hardcore urgency, AmRep-style noise-rock abrasion, death-metal heft, and classic-rock melodicism, with the band citing touchstones like Sonic Youth, Helmet, Voivod, Botch, Unsane, and Mr. Bungle. Drummer Curran Reynolds also later joined Today Is the Day; vocalist Gene Fowler has since passed away.

Napalm Death are an English extreme-metal band formed in Meriden, near Coventry, in 1981, who - with landmark records Scum (1987) and From Enslavement to Obliteration (1988) on Earache - practically defined grindcore by welding crust punk to death metal in extremely short, noise-filled blasts. Drummer Mick Harris, who joined in December 1985, popularized the blast beat before leaving to found the industrial/dub project Scorn. The pre-Scum lineup also briefly included guitarist Justin Broadrick, later of Godflesh.

Ikd-sj is a Japanese avant-garde/nu/alternative metal act based in Tokyo, active since the 2000s with releases including The Mortuary (2006), World's End Fruit Basket (2009), Eternal Vacation (2016) and 死んだ雪白中毒者にキスを (2023). Reviewers describe a genre-hopping sound fusing post-hardcore, noise rock, industrial textures, shoegaze haze and djent-adjacent riffing under trance-like harsh vocals. The project has stayed active into 2025 with new singles.

Cave In is an American rock band formed in 1995 in Methuen, Massachusetts, whose 1998 debut Until Your Heart Stops established them in the metalcore scene before they shifted toward space rock with 2000's Jupiter. Founding vocalist/guitarist Stephen Brodsky leads the band alongside guitarist/vocalist Adam McGrath and drummer John-Robert Conners. Bassist Caleb Scofield died in a car accident on March 28, 2018, after which Nate Newton of Converge joined on bass and backing vocals. Much of their core catalog was released through Hydra Head Records.
