Light Dweller

Ar'lyxkq'wr is a UK/US dissonant blackened death metal project formed in 2022, releasing a rapid string of full-lengths and EPs (Ss'unnhl, N'yxlwrr, R'ynn'wr(yx), Nry'lwn(rh)) through the Centipede Abyss collective/label. Its cryptic, unpronounceable apostrophe-and-diacritic-laden song and album titles mirror a compositional approach aimed at 'disintegrating' the vocabulary of technical death metal — pushing beyond Portal- and Gorguts'-Obscura-style dissonance into near-total structural collapse. Members perform under similarly cryptic pseudonyms and are tied to a cluster of like-minded underground projects (Apothecary, Cave, Act of Entropy) within the same scene.

GuilThee is a cultic Hungarian eclectic-metal band from Veszprém, founded in June 2006 by multi-instrumentalist Nagaarum (Gábor Tóth), evolving from thrash/groove/death metal into experimental/progressive metal. Their sound folds in tenor saxophone via longtime member Mr Match, synth-carpet atmospheres, and black-metal/dark-ambient textures across albums including Lustration (2009), Homunculus Paradoxon (2011), Szemantikai háromszögek (2012) and Eklektika (2013).

Endolith are an extreme progressive metal three-piece from Tromso, Norway, formed 2010 and signed to local label Rob Mules Records. Their concept album 'Chicxulub - The Fossil Record' (2019) refracts the dinosaur-extinction narrative through Meshuggah/Strapping Young Lad-style djent grooves, Gojira-esque crush, Devin Townsend-scale orchestral synth walls, black-metal (Emperor-tinged) tremolo bursts, and electronic programming, arriving at what one reviewer called 'a truly unforgettable trip.'

Nightmarer is an international dissonant/technical death metal trio conceived in 2014 by John Collett (vocals, ex-Gigan), guitarist Simon Hawemann (ex-War from a Harlot's Mouth) and drummer Paul Seidel (The Ocean), releasing the 2016 EP 'Chasm' and the 2018 Season of Mist album 'Cacophony of Terror' under the self-coined banner 'Total Dissonance Worship.' The band later left Season of Mist to run its own label of the same name.

If Nothing Is (stylized/credited as INI on Metal Archives) is a Trondheim, Norway avant-garde metal project fronted by vocalist Boeddelen, guitarists Håkon Grytvik and Mats Stenberg, drummer Vegard Myrdal Berg, and bassist/main composer Lars Emil Måløy — also the bassist of Dødheimsgard. Emerging from the ashes of an earlier band called Revocation around 2008, the group self-released its sprawling, ten-track debut "If Nothing Is" digitally in 2015, later remixed, remastered and issued physically by Dark Essence Records in 2021 with a guest synth/sample contribution from Dødheimsgard's Vicotnik. The record moves through thrash, speed, death and black metal within long-form, technically demanding compositions compared to early Atheist and Cynic.

Aoecist is the solo microtonal dissonant death metal project of Alan Brucke (aka The Cynic), who also plays in Pull the Strings and Mind Prisoner. Debut EP 'With a Whimper' (2025, Hauntology Records) pairs sickly microtonal riffing and atonal guitar tones with abrupt tempo shifts and a nihilistic lyrical stance. A 2025 three-way split, 'Illusory Dissolvents', paired Aoecist with fellow dissonant death acts Light Dweller and Sleep Paralysis. Firmly a bedroom one-person dissonant death metal project rather than a scene-connected act.

Biesy is a Kraków trio formed in 2014 around guitarist/bassist PR, joined by vocalist Stawrogin (also of Odraza, Totenmesse) and drummer MP (also of Outre), taking their concept from Dostoevsky's Demons and the alienation of urban life. Their 2017 debut Noc Lekkich Obyczajów (Third Eye Temple) delivers dissonant, disjointed black/death riffing compared to Ulcerate, Deathspell Omega, Immolation and Gorguts. The 2020 follow-up Transsatanizm (Godz ov War Productions) pushed further into avant-garde territory, layering industrial synths and looping electro beats over blackened riffs, described by reviewers as 'avangardish, industrial-infused post-rock/post-black.'

Gigan is an American technical/dissonant death metal band formed in 2005 by guitarist Eric Hersemann (ex-Hate Eternal, ex-Diabolic), known for pairing brutal dissonant riffing with heavy psychedelia, theremin, synths and otomatone. Their 2024 album Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus (Willowtip) was recorded by Sanford Parker in Chicago. The sci-fi-themed sound is described as an 'unsung vanguard of abstract and creatively dissonant extreme metal.'

Korog is a Budapest black'n'roll/death'n'roll outfit formed in 1995, most widely known for the two years (2001-2003) that Mayhem vocalist Attila Csihar spent behind the microphone.

Strapping Young Lad is Devin Townsend's industrial/thrash/death metal band, active 1994–2007 with a stable lineup of Townsend, guitarist Jed Simon, bassist Byron Stroud and drummer Gene Hoglan (also of Dark Angel, Death, Testament). Built on polyrhythmic riffing and blast beats, the band is best known for a hyper-dense, multitracked "wall of sound" production style critics compared to Phil Spector and Frank Zappa, drawing on the harsh industrial/noise lineage of Foetus and White Noise. City (1997) was the critical breakthrough; The New Black (2006) leaned back into the band's tongue-in-cheek black humor before their 2007 disbandment.
