Cephalic Carnage are an American deathgrind / technical death metal band formed in Denver, Colorado, in 1992, self-styled as 'Rocky Mountain hydro-grind.' AllMusic describes their sound as a 'crazy concoction of truly experimental grindcore, death metal, and jazz,' with occasional surf rock, flamenco interludes and violin-and-sax ambient jams. They signed to Relapse Records in 2000, and drummer John Merryman contributed to John Zorn-adjacent avant circles via Trey Spruance's Secret Chiefs 3.
